You’re Dying and What to do About It — Genesis 48:1-15

To read the previous post on Genesis, go to Joseph and Israel, Jesus and the Jew.

Read Genesis 48:1-15

Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim along with him. When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel rallied his strength and sat up on the bed. (Genesis 48:1-2)

Then he blessed Joseph. (v.15)

You’re dying and what to do about it

It seems apparent, Jacob knows he is dying. So here he is, on his death bed, knowing he is dying, and what does he do?

He rallies his strength and blesses Joseph.

You know, when you think about it, you also know you are dying. You know because you know every person on the planet dies. Not a single one of us will escape the same physical fate as Jacob.

When Jacob realized he was dying he rallied his strength and blessed Joseph.

Recognizing and realizing you’re dying, you should bless people too. You and I need to live every day, like today’s the day, you’re going to meet Jesus.

At 9:40 PM every night, my phone alerts me to a reminder that simply says, Mark 6:30. Because Mark 6:30 is where the apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. That’s a good thing to do at the end of the day.

If you knew you were going to encounter Christ at 9:40 tonight, what would you do with your time today? I think you would be wise to do as Jacob and the apostles did.

Because like Jacob, you’re dying.

So am I.

So live today, like today’s the day, you’re going to meet Jesus at the end of the day.

Bless people, in any way you can on behalf of Jesus Christ.

Then report in to Him, at the end of the day, in prayer. Like the apostles in Mark 6:30, report to Jesus all you have done and taught.

Lord help us to rally our strength to serve you, by blessing others, today.

  1. This posting should contain a blessing for us all. Great reminder that we all should be aware of how we spend our time during the course of the day. After all, we all will stand before the Lord to give an account of our service to Him. Lord bless you.

    • Good point Greg. There’s so much vanity in this life. Living for the real life is the only thing that makes sense.

      Thank you for your comment.
