The Surest Way To Work Up A Crusade

“The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior ‘righteous indignation’–this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.”

–Aldous Huxley

  1. In reading this I understand the premise, yet it reminds me of these scriptures:
Mat 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
Mat 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
And then the mixed emotions regarding this scripture:
Luk_22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Are we not in this very position today?
Now more than ever we are threatened with “the sword” of the government if we go out and witness for the cause of Messiah. But they don’t want us to own a “sword” for protection.
Actually to a degree this short message also reminds me of the politics of today!

    • What I had in mind Irene, were the recent shootings of black men by police, and the recent incidents where black men shot police officers. The post before this one, “The Line Dividing Good And Evil” was also published with the shootings in mind. I think these two quotes speak to all of us, regardless of our political positions.
