“This Is All That’s Left”

all-thats-left“I can’t believe it. After her whole lifetime, this is all that’s left.”

Kathy said that Friday as she stood in the front corner bedroom where the remainder of her mother’s possessions were. They buried her four days earlier.

I had to agree, it’s remarkable. Her house was sold a few years ago, all her possessions were sold, donated, or thrown away. Only a tiny fraction of what she owned was claimed by family members.

“. . . this is all that’s left.”

After making that statement Kathy continued to clean out the bedroom. It’s empty now. I know that because I can hear the carpet shampooer in the background as I write this.

In the end, her mom left plenty that was of value, but none of it was material.

We could learn something from the minimalists.

Jesus was a minimalist.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” –Jesus Christ, Matthew 6:19-21

Ecc 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
Ecc 7:2 It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
We are truly sorry for your loss….take heart as you read these verses…
    What is Kathy’s Mom’s name?

  2. wealth can be measured many ways . the ways of men with cash money and at the eyes of common people . they think that is what i want but do we really want money . it can buy many things but can it buy inner peace or love no . when everything is stripped away we find ourself in front of the Lord it is how we lived and i think your mom will stand proud in the fact that she rasied all of you with love for God and Fath and those are more presous then money or wealth .
