Political Polarization And Things For Which There Is No Law

I was standing in line at the post office today and overheard two women talking about the political polarization and anger we find in our country right now. An hour later I stumbled upon this quote from Os Guinness.

“Followers of Jesus are called to be peacemakers, with truth and grace; Paul asks us to speak the truth with love. We’re called to love our enemies and do good to those who wrong us. This is our Christian motivation for championing the classical virtue of civility.”

–Os Guinness

That’s a great quote from Guinness. Another way of saying something similar about Christ followers is found in Galatians 5:22-24. This passage prompted me to ask myself whether or not these words describe who I am. I think that’s a healthy question to ask.

Do these words from Galatians describe you?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
