Is Patience an Essential Part of Love?

God Running is a place for anyone who wants to love Jesus more deeply, follow Jesus more closely, and love people the way Jesus wants us to.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

In our last post we looked at why venting your anger and frustration is a terrible idea. In that post I quoted part of 1 Corinthians 13, and as I was reading it, I noticed something that surprised me.

In the paragraph that describes love.

The very first descriptor is:

Patience.

“Love is patient. . .” Paul wrote.

To become someone who pleases God, I think I need to become a more patient person.

“Father, the dear person reading this right now and I, we want to please You and bless You. We want to love You and love people the way You want us to. We want to love the way Jesus loved. And we want to love the way You describe love in the words You inspired Paul to write.

“Please have mercy on us, and fill us with the patience of Jesus so we can love the way You want us to.

“In Jesus’ name we ask this of You.

“Amen.”
