Once upon a time, after a Wednesday night Bible study, I had a conversation with my pastor in the parking lot of our church. I told him I wanted to write books about God and eternity and the things of the Lord. He knew me pretty well. (Besides being my pastor, we were next door-neighbors for six years.) So it was with great purpose and a certain intensity that he stared into my eyes said:
“Study Jesus.”
I nodded politely, but I really thought that was a crazy thing to say. Because I had attended his church for decades and listened to him teach most Sundays and also Wednesday night Bible studies–and–I was a note taker! With all that history, how could he say such a thing! How could he tell me to study Jesus?
But after some deliberation, I decided I had nothing to lose. So I did. I studied Jesus. It took seven years but I went through the Gospels and studied Jesus, especially the way he interacted with people and engaged people. That deep dive changed my life. And I believe it could change your life too.
What came out of the other end of those seven years was the book Love Like Jesus: How Jesus Loved People (and how you can love like Jesus).
