When You Have Nothing: Following Christ for Exhausted People

God Running is a place for anyone who wants to love Jesus more deeply, follow Jesus more closely, and love people the way Jesus wants us to.

“And even when I have nothing . . ., I will give Him this nothing.”

–St. Thérèse of Lisieux

There was this time in my life when I was struggling with my health, and with exhaustion, and with depression, and anxiety. Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you are there right now. What I remember about that time are the Monday mornings. I would try to rest up over the weekend and then on Monday, I did my best to start work around 8 am in the morning with some energy. The weird thing about that time of my life was this: On Monday morning, by 10 am . . .

I had nothing.

On Monday around 10 am, I felt like I had just worked the hardest week ever and it was late on Friday. I was exhausted. But it wasn’t Friday. It was 10 am, on Monday. And I still had the rest of the week ahead of me.

One of the hard realities of life is that sometimes we have nothing.

During that difficult time in my life, I wish I had known the secret St. Thérèse of Lisieux is sharing with us today.

When I have nothing,

I can give my nothing to Jesus.
