And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:16-17)

New Book For A New Year – Love Like Jesus: How Jesus Loved People (and how you can love like Jesus)

1865482908_2484908119_o

For a while now, most Saturdays here on God Running, we’ve been going through the book of John. And today we come to the part where Jesus says to us,

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”

And then he goes on to say,

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35

Does that describe you? Is that what you’re known for, by all people? For loving just as Jesus loved? For loving like Jesus? I asked myself that question a number of years ago and the answer was a resounding “No!” So I set out to learn how I might change that answer. The result was the book you’re about to read. (Kindle, hardback, and paperback versions of the full book are all scheduled to come out in January of 2020.)

Here’s the introduction.

Love Like Jesus: Forgiveness And Paralysis

ForgiveEachotherbyJohnPiercy-CC

Here’s a chapter from the book I’m writing: Love Like Jesus: How Jesus Loved People (And How You Can Too). It’s coming soon.

And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” — he then said to the paralytic — “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And he rose and went home.

Matthew 9:2-7

How Jesus Loved People

Jesus loved the paralytic by forgiving him.

People Who Betray Jesus

The Original Betrayer

Jesus and his disciples are at his last supper where Jesus has just finished washing his disciples’ feet, including the feet of Judas. After the foot-washing, Jesus says that he’s just given an example of how we are to serve each other, and love each other. And then he says that if we understand him, and if we do what he wants us to do, we’ll be blessed. (see previous post from the book of John series, How The God Of The Universe Came To Serve)

But then he qualifies these statements. He says, “I’m not Read More
