Photoshopping Fetus?

21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by a surgeon named Joseph Bruner. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life. Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful. Women are starting to photoshop a picture of their unborn baby onto their tummy, when they do one of those pregnant tummy glamour shots. Referring to this new trend, Allison Benedikt writes:

“…it got us thinking about how the more we treat fetuses like people—including them in our family photo shoots, tagging them on our Facebook walls, giving them their own Twitter accounts—the harder it will be to deny that they are people when the next, say, personhood amendment comes up, with legislators and activists arguing that “the unborn child” inside a pregnant woman’s womb should have the same rights as the living among us.” (Slate Magazine: Photoshopping a Fetus Onto Your Pregnant Stomach)

Make no mistake, Benedikt maintains a gung-ho pro-choice political position. In her article she’s trying to discourage women from doing things that bring an unborn baby’s humanity to light. But pause a second and think with me about what she’s really saying here. Deep down, people realize killing an unborn baby is wrong. The key to living with your conscience when you’re pro-choice is to keep the baby out of sight, and out of mind. Including a picture of your unborn baby destroys the perception of the unborn child as less than human.

I’ve never been a fan of pregnant tummy glamour shots, and I’m not even sure after hearing what Benedikt had to say, I’ve changed my mind. But if you’re going to have it done anyway, why not include an ultrasound image of your baby?

In fact, let me encourage you to do everything you can to emphasize the humanity of your unborn child.

Talk about the personality of your baby, as you experience his or her kicks, and excited times, and quiet times. Post it on Facebook.

Include his or her picture in family photo shoots.

Tag them on your Facebook wall.

Start a Facebook account for your unborn baby.

Start a Twitter account for your unborn baby.

Share ultrasound images on Facebook and Twitter.

When people see the reality of the humanity of an unborn baby, it could make a difference.

It could be just the revelation needed for people’s consciences to kick in.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”

Opening the Casket on Abortion by Scott Klusendorf

Opening the Casket on Abortion by Scott Klusendorf — Posted on Justin Taylor’s blog, Between Two Worlds.

This is a powerful blog post written by Scott Klusendorf. It’s about Emmett Till, a 14 year old African American youth from Chicago. While visiting Money, Mississippi, Emmett made the mistake of flirting with a young woman who was white and married. The year was 1955, and it didn’t take long for some locals to take matters into their own hands. At 2 AM the next morning they pulled Emmett from the house he was staying and killed him. They also beat his face beyond recognition. (Read Klusendorf’s article here)

Emmett was shipped back to his mother in a coffin. What happened next turned out to be a big part of the beginning of the civil rights movement. Emmett’s mother, Mamie Till, insisted on an open casket funeral service.

After telling Emmett’s story, the author of this blog post, Scott Klusendorf, goes on to say, we, as Christians, need to open the casket on abortion.

What happened to Emmett Till wasn’t right. It was dark. It was horrible. Emmett didn’t break any laws. And at 14, Emmett had very limited capability to defend himself, or to run, or even to gather friends and family to help him.

Unborn children don’t have limited capability to do such things — they have no capability. They have no means of defending themselves. They have no voice to cry out with for help. And they’re completely innocent.

I’m with Klusendorf. It’s time to take the casket off of abortion.

We need to share the visual devastation of abortion in a way that transcends the Christian world view.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”

Those Who Never Saw the Light of Day

This man, who’s mother decided not to abort against the advice of her doctors, is Andrea Bocelli, an Italian tenor who has sold more than 70,000,000 copies of his albums. He is the greatest selling classical music artist of all time. He was voted one of People magazine’s 50 most beautiful people and has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

How many great men and women has God sent into the world, who never saw the light of day, because a different decision was made? Men and women, who would have been even greater than Bocelli perhaps. Men and women who would have discovered the cure for cancer perhaps. Men and women who God sent to this world to bless us.

Choose life.

your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Psalm 139:16

Baby Survives Abortion

baby born at 1 poundA baby boy survived an abortion.

Twenty hours after he was aborted a priest who was praying over the child noticed that he was still alive. The priest notified medical authorities who rushed the baby to a neonatal unit.

Life saving measures were not successful. The baby, who was born on Saturday, died on Monday.

The incident occurred in Rossano, Italy. The abortion occurred at 22 weeks.

Unfortunately, the pro abortion mind goes through the necessary mental gymnastics, and rationalizes that if the baby is not visible the baby is not a baby, but rather a fetus, and the killing is not killing, but rather it’s aborting.

God have mercy on us.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”

Christian NFL Pro Bowlers Support Tebow

More debate on Fox about Tebow’s Pro-Life Superbowl ad. This time Focus on the Family’s Jim Daily weighs in and Jehmu Greene again supports the pro-choice (pro-abortion?) view. (see previous posts Attackers of Tebow’s Ad Not Pro-Choice,  O’Reilly vs. Abortion Supporter on Tebow Ad,  Learn From Tebow — Stand for Something)

Several Christian NFL Pro Bowlers support Tebow’s Pro-Life Super Bowl ad.  According to the Baptist Press:

David Garrard, quarterback for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, said he appreciates Tebow for standing by his convictions.

“I applaud him for standing up for what he believes,” Garrard said after practice for the Jan. 31 Pro Bowl. “More people, more athletes should do the same.”

Philadelphia Eagles David Akers, one of the NFL’s most reliable kickers, said since he is “definitely pro-life” and has been through the adoption process in his family, he believes strongly in celebrating life.

“If you get into the politics of what should and shouldn’t happen, I’m definitely biblically based,” Akers said. “I think that’s creation and we shouldn’t harm it.”

As for a Super Bowl ad supporting a pro-life view, Akers said, “If someone’s paying for it, absolutely.”

“What’s the difference between their opinion on that or someone saying yeah or nay to alcohol,” he asked rhetorically.

Heath Miller, a tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a believer, said he appreciates those who encourage each other in their faith, and that he admires Tebow for his convictions and doesn’t believe anyone will change him.

“I think Tim has every right to use every stage to tell people what he believes,” Miller said, even a commercial during the Super Bowl. “He’s a football player, he can relay what he believes just as much as anyone else can.”

As far as the haters go, L. Brent Bozell III says it better than I can in his New York Post article, Feminist Fury at Super Bowl ‘Choice,’

Isn’t it a little strange to see people who present themselves as “pro-choice” get so upset when someone suggests their choice was to keep the baby?

Bozell’s article is one of the best I’ve seen on the issue. I highly recommend it.

Michelle Duggar’s Health Endangered with Birth of #19 — Jim Near Tears — Video

This video is a preview to the season premiere of TLC’s TV program about the Duggars, a family with, well, with a whole bunch of kids. (see previous posts The Duggars and Be Fruitful) It’s a great inside look at the courage of this family as they face adversity. The premiere airs tomorrow, Sunday, January 31 at 8PM Eastern and Pacific on TLC. At the time of the video Michelle is less than six months pregnant. She’s suffering from preeclampsia and the health of both she and the baby are at risk.

This television show is so refreshing. Kudos to TLC for airing a show that portrays Christians in a positive light. This is in stark contrast to the Christian bashing that’s so often seen from Hollywood and most of the rest of television.

Your Life:

I’m told that there’s a movie about life on earth a few centuries or so into the future. In the movie, all of the world’s wise and intelligent people stop having children in order to devote their lives to their careers. The result is that the world becomes populated with people who are notably stupid and lacking in good judgment. (definition for moron from dictionary.com) Five-hundred years into the future, a cryogenically preserved man of average intelligence is awakened and found to be a super-genius relative to the rest of humanity.

Isn’t that what we Christians are doing when we don’t obey God’s command to be fruitful and multiply? Are you of above average intelligence? Are you a Bible believing Christian? Then have a bunch of kids! I’m not saying you should have as many as the Duggars, God bless them, but have plenty. All else being equal, the more believers on the planet the more we can influence the world for God’s kingdom.

As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

Genesis 9:7
