Things I Heard In Church: Here is a great lie, “All we actually have is today.”

The following is a quote from Matt Bowen’s teaching on  Joy, 12/13/2015. The text for this teaching is Isaiah 25:6-9.

One of the great lies that our world often believes is that all we actually have is today. (This is one of the great lies that fuels a whole lot of really stupid purchases. All you have is right now–before the sale ends.)

You Are Not Condemned

Hell

Last post on the book of John we saw how God so loved us, that He allowed His Son to suffer a horrible death, to pay the price for our sins, so we could be reconciled to Him in heaven. That’s the message of John 3:16. And then in John 3:17 we saw how God’s purpose isn’t to condemn anyone, but instead His purpose is exactly the opposite, His purpose is to rescue everyone from condemnation. (John 3:17, 2 Peter 3:9, See previous post For God So Loved You)

Today we’ll explore the next verse after John 3:16-17. Speaking of himself Jesus says,

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:18)

The Disgusting Thing This Guy Did For His Daughter

I read about a guy today who gave up on love. In the third grade he decided “love was for girls,” which might be kind of funny except he continued his boycott of love all the way through high school. He even refused to Read More

It’s Time to Die

In a previous post we saw how important it is not to die indiscriminately. It was a post for people who can’t say no, as you might gather from the title: How Not to Become a Christian Doormat.

This post is probably more important and for a greater number because this post is for all of us who Read More

If I’m Not Thankful For What I’ve Got

“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.”

The Effect Of Pride On Thanksgiving

“Pride slays thanksgiving, but a humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grow. A proud man is seldom a grateful man, for he never thinks he gets as much as he deserves.”

The Math Of Thanksgiving Dinners And Football Half-times

“Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.”

An Honest Seeker Comes To Jesus

There was this man who was a Pharisee named Nicodemus. He was a teacher of the Jewish scriptures, and also a member of the Sanhedrin, one of the 71 Jewish men who ruled over Israel. I’ve heard the Sanhedrin described as a combination of our Supreme Court and our Senate, so the guy was a big deal in the Israeli community.
